What Is the Class E Knowledge Exam?
The Class E Knowledge Exam is required to obtain your Florida learner’s license.
The test includes 50 multiple-choice questions covering:
Florida traffic laws
Safe driving practices
Road signs & traffic controls
✔️ You must score 80% or higher (40 out of 50 correct) to pass.
Who Can Take the Test?
📅 Must be at least 15 years old
🪪 After you pass, you must hold your learner’s permit for 12 months (with no violations) before taking your road test for a full driver’s license.

Results Submitted Automatically to Florida DHSMV
Once completed, your test results are automatically submitted to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) and are available at all driver license offices statewide.

If you’re under 18 and applying for your first learner’s permit in Florida, this is your first step. The 6-Hour Drug and Alcohol Traffic Education (DETS) course is state-required and must be completed before you can take the permit test. It covers everything you need to know about safe, responsible driving and the effects of drugs and alcohol on your ability to drive.
